1. Define the site before installing more tools
Write down the primary audience, the main action you want visitors to take and the smallest set of pages needed for launch. A focused five-page website usually performs better than a sprawling site with unfinished sections.
2. Configure the foundation
Set identity and timezone
Open Settings → General. Add the site title, tagline, admin email and correct timezone.
Choose permalinks
Open Settings → Permalinks and use a readable structure such as Post name.
Remove sample content
Delete the sample post and page, then empty the trash so they do not appear in search results or feeds.
Set discussion defaults
Decide whether comments fit the site. Disable them globally when they are not part of the strategy.
3. Create core pages
Draft the essential pages before obsessing over visual details. Start with plain content, clear headings and one primary call to action per page.
- Home: who the site helps, what it offers and the next step.
- About: experience, point of view and reasons to trust the brand.
- Services or Resources: organized around visitor problems.
- Blog: educational content connected to the site’s core topics.
- Contact: simple expectations, response time and required details.
4. Install a minimal plugin stack
Start with backups, SEO, security, forms and analytics. Add caching or image optimization based on what the host already provides. Avoid installing multiple plugins that do the same job.
